Melancholie der Engel
Marian Dora (D)
Another big name at BUTFF 2011 is the German director Marian Dora.
Underground Cinema
As you probably know, Nick Zedd introduced the meme "transgression" as an artistic force into our culture in 1979. He then wrote the Cinema of Transgression Manifesto in 1984, announcing a new movement and publicizing the activities of fellow exemplary artists in the pages of his self-published zine called The Underground Film Bulletin. I could go on and write more but you already know it all and them some!

What is the most immoral thing you can do to a human being? Take that and double it – that is what you will see in Melancholie der Engel. Melancholie der Engel is an extreme film that is definitely not for everyone. Maria Dora leaves nothing to the imagination as he shows the most gruesome side of mankind for a full two and a half hours, without giving the audience anything they can relate to.
With reviews such as “the most extreme, gruesome and hardest film ever,” you know what you are getting in to. What Dora ultimately creates are wonderfully structured scenes that are beautifully shot, exactly what we would expect of him. Only don’t try to find any morality in the film -- there is none.
